The Business of Turnovers

So, a friend of mine always seems to bring up turnovers when considering drafting a player and while I can understand why (as it is one of the nine basic categories in fantasy basketball) I can’t help but to say the following:
Who cares.
No disrespect to my friend, as he does know his fantasy hoops, but I just don’t care so much about this business of turnovers. I’m not saying to knowingly punt the category, but I am saying don’t care about it as much as you do points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks, 3-pointers made, and the percentages when you draft. Why you ask?

Dropping Dimes Draft Blog: Round 1, Pick 8

Imagine a round of golf with your friends that has been fun and competitive thus far. No one usually does anything too crazy when starting off a round. But heading towards the 8th tee, some of them are going to want to take out their driver and try to hit the ball right at the flag. So what, they say, if the hole is set up as a dog leg right, and that their short-cut is protected by trees, a valley and a lake of water. Did I mention that the green is also protected by a series of bunkers and that the wind is blowing in your faces? Let these “expert” friends of yours take this sucker shot. You are going to be like Tiger Woods and play it safer but smart. Leave the big dog to eat another day, take out your 3-wood and launch it a country mile right down the fairway.

Round 1, Pick 3: Shawn Marion
Okay, I have to admit it. I asked Ron whom he was going to take with the second overall pick and he said that he probably would go with Marion at that point. However, he had no problem in relinquishing that pick if I wanted to write about the Matrix because he knew about my man-love for the guy. All I can say is… MY JEDI MIND TRICK WORKED!
Seriously, I am crushing on Marion and Ron was nice enough to let me pick him for the inaugural Dropping Dimes Draft Blog. Ron… thank you, sir.

Do Not Draft Amare Stoudemire!

Okay, some of you are probably still infatuated with what Stoudemire did during the 2004-2005 season and it’s nothing to sneeze at - 26.0 ppg, 8.9 rpg, 1.0 spg, 1.6 bpg, 55.9 FG%, and a big man that can actually shoot free throws, my word, at a 73.3% clip! And on top of all those very good numbers, Stoudemire was center eligible! That in itself elevates his value a great deal! But, did you read the subject line? I’m sure you did. What does it say? That’s right… despite all that good stuff during the aforementioned season, do not draft Amare Stoudemire.
I know, I’m crazy, right? And I’m sure I’m going to hear from all the Suns fans, but I’m telling you, listen to Uncle Dennis, Amare will not be worth where he gets drafted and we all know that some guy (the proverbial that guy; don’t be him, I implore you) will take him in the first or second round.

Can Anyone Eclipse Steve Nash In the Assists Category?

I think Steve Nash is probably definitely the king of assists at this point and will be again, but don’t laugh about Chris Paul possibly taking the assists title in his sophomore campaign.
Nash has the horses to run the floor with him and great shooters that can stop and pop, as well as great penetrators that can take it to the house. And, obviously, Nash has great court vision, but he’s lucky to have the personnel that he does - namely Shawn Marion, Amare Stoudemire, and the perimeter player du annee. This past season it was Raja Bell and Leandro Barbosa; the previous season, Joe Johnson and Quentin Richardson.
